Health On-site
Making a Doctor Appointment in Greece
When living in a foreign country and an unfamiliar city where you don’t speak the language, having to set up a doctor’s appointment can be frustrating and nerve-wracking. But don’t worry: it’s much easier than you think. While studying at ACG, the College has their own protocol on addressing health issues/emergencies which will be communicated to you upon arrival. Also, CIS onsite staff works with the International Student Services office in case of medical need to assist with the process as needed.
Making an Appointment - ACG Campus
Students wishing to see an on-campus nurse during business hours (M – F between 8:00am - 7:00pm) can call the Pierce Infirmary (ext. 1193, 1093, 1500).
Students may also ask their Resident Assistant to make a doctor’s appointment on the students behalf. The Resident Assistant will accompany the student to their appointment, as well as assist with obtaining necessary medications from the local pharmacy.
Pharmacies
It is important to note that in Athens, it is common to first visit a pharmacist for minor health issues before seeing a doctor. Pharmacies not only offer medicine, but also other health and beauty products. The pharmacists are trained professionals who can provide advice on over-the-counter medication for minor aches and pains or common viruses such as the flu. However, it is important to read the information accompanying your medication, particularly if you have any drug allergies. Additionally, it is important to note that pills in Greece may come in different sizes than what is typical in the US, so it is important to pay attention to the recommended dosage.
