Excursions

Studying abroad in Greece offers plenty of fun and exciting excursions and activities planned for you once you arrive! These activities will help you learn about the vast history of Athens and Greece, as well as the culture. These are some of the excursions that have been done in the past, the ones included in your program will depend on the semester you study abroad. Your Site Director will communicate your activities and excursions ahead of time. 

Excursions

Epidaurus

What to Do in Epidaurus, Greece

This excursion is exclusive to CIS Abroad students. Epidaurus is the largest ancient theatre preserved in Greece. It is situated at the magnificent gulf of Argolida with pine trees extended all the way to crystal blue waters and calm beaches. The theatre itself is surrounded by dense forest and is famous worldwide for its acoustics. The theatre is a breathtaking spectacle but also wisely built next to the famous Asklipiion sanctuary which is one of the oldest medical centers in the world. Ancient Greeks believed that physical and mental health are intertwined and thought that arts in general and plays in specific were the cure for the soul. That is why they built a theatre next to the sanctuary, for the patients to attend.

The visit includes both the theatre and the sanctuary and is delivered by a professional guide. After the visit we will continue our trip to Argolida and head towards Nemea which is also called Greece’s Bordeaux, as there we have one of the largest productions in wines in Greece. After lunch we return to Athens in the evening. The whole trip is done on a private luxurious mini bus.

Meteora

Delphi

One of the excursions provided by the American College of Greece, Delphi is the site of the 4th century BC Temple of Apollo, once home to a legendary oracle. This extensive mountainside archaeological complex contains the remains of the sanctuaries of Apollo and Athena Pronaia, plus a stadium and a theater.

Nafplio

Nafplio

The charming seaside town of Nafplio is nestled in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece. Once a stronghold of the ancient Mycenaean civilization and a former capital of modern Greece, Nafplio boasts a rich history and picturesque waterfront setting. This is another excursion provided by ACG. Visit the fortress of Bourtzi, an island castle in the middle of the harbor and explore the cobblestone streets of Old Town, full of artisan shops, cafes, and restaurants.
