First things first! You will need a passport that doesn’t expire too soon -- at a minimum it should last for 6 months after your anticipated return from your study abroad program. Apply or renew now if you need to!
Important: Make sure you sign your passport before travel, as it's not a valid document without your signature!
Visas and Permits to Stay
Summer Students
U.S. passport holders studying in Greece for a summer (under 90 days) do not require a Greek visa to study abroad.
Semester Students
U.S. passport holders studying in Greece for a semester must obtain a student visa prior to departure. To obtain a student visa for Greece, U.S. students must travel to the nearest Greek embassy or consulate for an in-person appointment.
The visa appointment can be made online at the nearest Greek consulate, and it's recommended that students schedule it as soon as they receive their acceptance letter from CIS Abroad. Along with the online application, students should prepare all required supporting documents, such as proof of acceptance, proof of financial means, and proof of health insurance, to bring to the appointment.
